Spring Gathering Dates are: April 22 - 25, 2010
Camp Albemarle, Newport, NC
This is a great opportunity to make new friends, as well as to renew old friendships, in a relaxed atmosphere where there is time to choose planned activities, informally discuss homeschooling perspectives with other families, enjoy games, explore trails & visit. Our gatherings are small – 20 to 30 families – and noncommercial in nature (no outside vendors)
General Camp Information
We have reserved the whole Camp with cabins, fire ring, dining hall with full commercial kitchen.
Accommodations: Cabins. Prices are listed below.
Meals
Thursday evening, Friday morning and noon: On your own, we have use of the kitchen those times and there is room in the refrigerator for your food. Please make sure to label your food if you put it in the fridge.
Friday evening: Potluck: The best meal of the Gathering! We will eat at 6 PM. Please bring a main dish PLUS a salad, side dish or dessert. (Note: Please bring a list of ingredients for each dish you contribute - for our friends who limit their diet by choice or need).
Saturday Breakfast: is sometimes a pancake breakfast fundraiser to support our scholarship program (planning and volunteers for this will be discussed on the yahoo list…)
Otherwise, Saturday breakfast is “on your own” – If you do not want to participate in the fundraiser you can bring your own food, but feel free to use the kitchen - AND clean up when you are done! We will have use of their large walk-in refrigerator so bring everything you need but remember to label your food if you want it to be there when you are hungry.
Saturday lunch and dinner, and Sunday brunch. We will be preparing our own group meals in the camp Kitchen. Each family is asked to bring a snack to contribute to the Saturday snack table.
Activities
Does some member of your family have a skill or talent to share with us? Leading a campfire sing or special game, soapstone carving, recycled paper-making, an adult discussion of interest? The field is wide open to your creativity! We hope that each family will contribute an activity to the weekend – the activity leader may be of any age! If you plan an outdoor activity, you might consider also planning an alternative indoor activity in case of rain. Please indicate your choice on the activity sheet. Bring card & board games and puzzles for indoor time.
Camp Albemarle is located on 39 acres on the beautiful banks of the Bogue Sound, part of the Intracoastal Waterway, not far from Morehead City.
Recreational facilities available to our group at NO extra charge include: a sports field for capture the flag, a basketball/tennis court, volleyball courts, tetherball courts, canoes, and sea kayaks. This year we will also have an archery funshop.
Chores
Our weekend is a cooperative effort, making the work load a light one. We ask that everyone age 12 or over participate in two chores. If you or a family member has special needs please make sure to type that in, there is a space provided. As always, each family is responsible for leaving their cabin clean and neat on Sunday. Thanks!
